Soul Food + Southern Food

Growing up in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, cooking southern food and soul food run through my blood. I come from a family of professional cooks, restauranteurs and home cooks. It's a style of cooking that really does nurture your soul because it's cooked with love. What is soul food? It's food that was created by the African American community to create nourishing and delicious food that feeds your stomach and soul, thus the name "soul food." The soul food cooking traditions birthed out of the oppression of slavery and discrimination where cooks took food that was considered "non-desirable" and created a whole new cuisine.
